Canada Strong Pass Drives 10% Increase in Parks Canada Visits

The Canada Strong Pass has led to measurable increases in rail travel, museum attendance, and visits to national parks since it was introduced earlier this summer, the federal government reports.

The pass, which ran from June 20 to Sept. 2, provided free admission to national parks and historic sites managed by Parks Canada.

It also granted free entry to national museums for children 17 and under and offered a 50% discount for visitors aged 18 to 24.

The Department of Canadian Heritage reports early results indicate visits to Parks Canada sites rose by 10% during the program.

According to an article published by Castanet on September 3, the department also reported that midsummer attendance at participating national museums increased by an average of 15% compared with the same period last year.

VIA Rail Canada reported that the pass was used for more than 50,000 bookings. The program allowed free travel for children and teens under 18 traveling with an adult, while travelers between 18 and 24 received discounted fares.

The program is framed as a way to support tourism recovery and encourage younger Canadians to engage with national cultural and natural institutions. By linking discounted travel with free access to attractions, the initiative aimed to stimulate demand across multiple sectors.

“The Canada Strong Pass celebrates what unites us—our shared experiences, natural wonders, and cultural richness. The Pass is about making it easier for everyone—especially youth and families—to explore Canada and celebrate what makes this country extraordinary,” the announcement indicates.

The Canada Strong Pass is not a physical pass that requires purchase, registration, or collection. Visitors can access the benefits simply by going to participating Parks Canada sites, museums, galleries, or VIA Rail to receive free admission or discounted fares.

The pass also granted free entry to all national marine conservation areas managed by Parks Canada. It also extended to discounted rates on camping, roofed accommodations, and historic stays offered by Parks Canada.

However, the program did not apply to provincial, municipal, or privately operated parks.
