Tsawaak RV Resort Highlights Cultural Integration with Expanded Offerings

Tsawaak RV Resort & Campground in Tofino, British Columbia, has expanded its offerings with the addition of five new campsites, broadening the accommodation choices for travelers visiting Vancouver Island’s west coast.

The resort now features 34 RV sites, 13 mini longhouse cabins, and 5 tent sites, catering to a range of camping preferences.

Owned and operated by the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation, Tsawaak RV Resort sits on Nation land and reflects a broader effort to integrate outdoor hospitality with cultural heritage and sustainable practices.

“Tsawaak is derived from His-shuk-nish-tsa-waak, meaning ‘we are all one,’ honouring a deep connection to nature and the land,” the Nation explains on the resort’s website.

The resort’s operations align with the First Nation’s mission statement: “We are here. We restore and promote our traditional values, we provide enhanced services to improve the quality of life for all.”

As part of its commitment to the Tribal Parks Allies program, the resort contributes to a conservation economy that supports ecological restoration and the resurgence of Tla-o-qui-aht culture.

“Together, we’re enacting a future where every dollar spent supports the protection and restoration of the Tribal Parks ancestral gardens and the resurgence of Tla-o-qui-aht culture and governance,” the organization notes.

Accommodations at the property include a range of options from un-serviced tent sites to full hookup RV spaces with amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and Wi-Fi. Larger RVs are also accommodated, with drive-in and drive-out accessibility.

The resort additionally offers a fully equipped RV rental and mini longhouse cabins constructed from cedar and inspired by traditional designs. Several pet-friendly options are available, including newly introduced cabins.

On-site facilities include an amenities building with washrooms, showers, laundry, vending machines, and illuminated pathways.

A visitor centre, described as the first of its kind, incorporates natural building materials and features both a retail shop for essentials and a gallery showcasing local Tla-o-qui-aht artists.

For professionals in the outdoor hospitality sector, Tsawaak provides an example of how Indigenous ownership and cultural integration can create distinctive value propositions within a competitive tourism market.

By connecting ecological stewardship with guest experiences, the resort demonstrates how business models in the RV and camping industry can align with sustainability and community engagement goals.

Located within walking distance of Tofino’s village core and near Mackenzie Beach, the resort also benefits from proximity to regional attractions, cultural programming, and west coast cuisine.

The expansion of its campsites adds to the accommodation capacity of a destination known for high visitor demand, particularly in peak seasons.
