The Stonewater on BC’s Sunshine Coast Makes Elle Magazine’s Cool List

After undergoing renovations in 2024, The Stonewater, a boutique lodging property located on British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast, has gained national attention for its design and offerings.

Owned by Vancouver-based real estate professional Qaid Jivan, the property was recognized by Elle Magazine earlier this year as one of the “coolest motels in Canada.”

Located at 13483 Sunshine Coast Highway in Madeira Park, The Stonewater sits roughly 2.5 hours from Vancouver, including the ferry ride.

The site is positioned within reach of popular outdoor destinations, including local beaches, lakes, and hiking trails in the Pender Harbour area. The property, surrounded by forest, markets itself as a retreat for visitors interested in nature and the outdoors.

The Stonewater offers several types of accommodations, including studios with queen beds, tiny cabins, and glamping trailers. The tiny cabins are outfitted with modern essentials such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth but rely on shared bathroom facilities located nearby.

The glamping trailers are equipped with full kitchens, private bathrooms, movie projectors, and can sleep up to five guests.

“All of our trailers deliver a comfortable experience with full kitchens, bathrooms, a movie projector, and a range of sleeping arrangements to suit your needs,” the property states on its website.

According to the DailyHive Lifestyle, an additional amenity offered by The Stonewater is The Moonshine Spa, a private rental area designed for small groups.

“The Moonshine Spa features a cedar sauna, a hot tub, a shower, a cold plunge, and a fire pit, all of which could accommodate you and four of your friends,” according to the property’s description.

Nightly rates for rooms at The Stonewater typically range from $200 to $300, depending on the accommodation selected. Since its reopening in 2024, the property’s blend of rustic setting and modern conveniences has drawn attention from the travel media.

For outdoor hospitality operators, The Stonewater offers a working model of how thoughtful renovation and multi-type accommodation offerings, combined with nature-focused marketing, can broaden appeal to a variety of traveler types.

By incorporating a mix of traditional stays, glamping units, and wellness-focused amenities like a spa, The Stonewater illustrates a strategic approach to capturing interest in both the lifestyle and experience-driven travel segments.

The property’s location, branding, and flexible use of space may offer insights for campground, RV park, or boutique resort operators seeking to diversify their offerings or reposition older facilities in scenic, outdoor-oriented locations.
