Seasonal Campers Show Strong Interest in Reopened Todd’s Campground in Peachland

The reopening of Todd’s Campground under a new seasonal model has garnered significant interest from the camping community, according to the new operator of the site. After its closure in 2022, the historic campground at 3976 Beach Avenue is set to welcome guests under a seasonal operation.

According to a Castanet report, Stan Duckworth, a consultant in the camping industry, is assisting the property’s ownership group with the transition. Duckworth stated, “We’ve got about 100 people so far that have requested information,” highlighting the community’s keen interest.

The campground was previously operated as Todd’s RV and Camping for 66 years before its closure following a sale to developers. This long-standing site is a staple in Peachland’s outdoor offerings and has served generations of campers.

In this new phase, Todd’s will focus on accommodating guests interested in seasonal stays, though space permitting, shorter stays may also be available. Notably, the campground will not allow tents, positioning itself primarily for RVs and permanent campers.

This strategic shift to a seasonal model could serve as a benchmark for other campground operators who are considering similar pivots. By focusing on long-term stays, campgrounds can potentially create a more stable revenue stream.

The District of Peachland has approved plans for a 49-unit luxury condo development, Crystal Lake Okanagan Residences, on the campground’s site. However, this project is currently on hold due to market conditions, leaving room for the campground to operate at least for this season.

The campground has recently undergone enhancements, including the enlargement and renumbering of some sites. According to the campground’s website, these changes are designed to improve the overall guest experience, suggesting a tailored approach to meet the evolving preferences of today’s campers.

Todd’s new operational model and its focus on seasonal clientele illustrate a growing trend in the campground industry towards specialized services. This trend not only catifies to changing consumer behaviors but also addresses the competitive pressures from alternative accommodation options like condos and luxury residences.

The relaunch of Todd’s Campground presents an opportunity for campground owners and operators to observe and learn from Todd’s approach to market adaptation, guest experience enhancements, and infrastructure management. Such insights are crucial for maintaining relevance and competitiveness in the rapidly evolving outdoor hospitality sector.

Moreover, the seasonal model adopted by Todd’s offers a potential pathway for other campgrounds navigating similar transitions, especially in areas facing developmental pressures or changing tourist demographics.

Todd’s Lakeside Seasonal RV Resort, as it is now known, remains a prime example of how traditional camping spaces can adapt to modern demands while preserving their charm and appeal.

Located near the shores of Okanagan Lake, the resort continues to draw visitors with its scenic views and proximity to local attractions, reinforcing its status as a cherished destination in Peachland.
