British Columbia’s Porpoise Bay Provincial Park: An Ideal Destination for a Holiday Getaway

Are you looking for a perfect destination for your holiday camping getaway? Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, located in Sunshine Coast (British Columbia, Canada), is perfect for the whole family!

Located just four kilometers north of Sechelt and situated at the south of Sechelt Inlet, Porpoise Bay Provincial Park is a great base camp for an extensive excursion of the Sunshine Coast. There are numerous opportunities to get active regardless of your preferred pace, it may be relaxing and swimming at the beach, hiking the trails, or exploring local marine parks and waterways.

If a relaxed and family-friendly vacation is what you’re looking for, Porpoise Bay Provincial Park permits you to set up your camp, stroll towards the beach and stay there throughout the week. The long, sandy beach is perfect for taking naps in the afternoon, and the gentle slope of a significant section of the beach is ideal for playing on the shallows. Keep in mind that there are areas where the shoreline disappears quickly, and there aren’t lifeguards in the area.

Next to the beach is an adventure playground and grassy areas perfect for keeping kids entertained. After your time spent in the sun, salt, and sand is over, take advantage of the hot showers in either the day-use area or at the campground to clean up.

From the campground, numerous walking trails run through Angus Creek. After crossing the bridge, go towards the estuary mudflats, which are great for bird watching. The trails aren’t too long and can be a pleasant afternoon or evening walk. Make sure you keep your pet on a leash and adhere to the designated trails to safeguard the sensitive ecosystem.

Porpoise Bay Provincial Park promotes a clean-air policy. It means that the campsites don’t have campfire rings or permit fires. If there’s no camping ban in place and you’re looking for s’mores, locate three of the communal campfire spots at the campsite and start toasting!

If an active holiday is what you have in mind, then exploring the local waters and marine parks can be accomplished with Porpoise Bay as a base camp. Sechelt Inlet itself offers plenty of paddling options, ranging from fairly safe single-day explorations near the campground to multi-day trips towards the northern end of Tuwanek and out to Salmon and Narrows Inlets.

Numerous marine parks located on the western part of the Sunshine Coast also make excellent daytime paddles. Smuggler Cove Marine Provincial Park is a beautiful anchorage accessible by paddling around the peninsula from the launching point near Brooks Road. If you don’t own boats, the park is also accessible through an eight-kilometer hike from Brooks Road.

Further up, the Pender Harbour community makes an excellent base to explore the waters protected by Pender Harbour.

If you’re looking for an extra dose of adventure, taking a trip out to Moore Point and down to Francis Point Provincial Park allows you to feel the wind blowing through your hair! When you return, you can explore the numerous coves and bays within Pender Harbour and dream about what it could be to own one of the gorgeous properties within the region.
