British Columbia’s government has introduced a new Destination Events Program aimed at supporting tourism-focused events across the province.
The announcement was made by Minister Chandra Herbert during a presentation at the BC Tourism Industry Conference on March 7.
The program will offer up to CA$5 million annually to assist with operational expenses for events that draw overnight visitors and stimulate local economies. It builds on the former Tourism Events Program with an expanded focus on tourism, arts, culture, and sport.
Funding is designed to support communities in hosting events that create jobs, encourage economic activity, and strengthen tourism development.
Applications for funding will be accepted from April 7 to May 5. Eligible events must take place between June 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026.
The initiative aims to provide support for local organizers by covering costs such as venue rentals, equipment, and staffing. It is intended to help offset the operational expenses that often pose challenges for community-led events.
“Supporting shoulder and off-season tourism growth, driving overnight visitation and raising destination awareness to encourage future tourism investment and repeat visitation,” the program stated on its website.
