Blending Brews with Campfire Views: McBride Pub Pivots to Campground Industry

Some campgrounds include on-site bars and restaurants in their park expansion plan. The same could seemingly be said about pubs as they diversify their offerings by branching out into the world of campgrounds and RV parks.

This innovative approach not only provides an additional revenue stream but also enhances the overall guest experience, blending the allure of traditional pubs with the charm of outdoor accommodations.

One standout example of this trend is the Gigglin’ Grizzly RV Park in McBride (British Columbia). While the park shares its name and property with the well-known Gigglin’ Grizzly Pub, it operates as a distinct entity, offering a unique blend of modern amenities and rustic charm. With 24 full hook-up sites, the park is equipped to cater to a diverse range of guests, from casual travelers to dedicated RV enthusiasts.

The strategic decision to open an RV park adjacent to a pub offers numerous benefits. For one, it attracts a broader clientele. Tourists and travelers can enjoy a refreshing drink at the pub after a day of exploring, then retire to the comfort of the adjacent campground. This synergy between the two establishments enhances the overall guest experience, making it a win-win for both businesses and patrons.

However, transitioning from running a pub to managing an RV park is not without challenges. From navigating regulatory requirements to addressing infrastructure development costs, pub owners venturing into this domain must be prepared for a steep learning curve. Yet, with careful planning, community support, and a dash of entrepreneurial spirit, these challenges can be transformed into opportunities.

The Gigglin’ Grizzly RV Park’s journey is a testament to this spirit of innovation and resilience.

Despite facing challenges, including the global pandemic and integrating with the village’s existing infrastructure, the Fry family’s vision has come to fruition, according to a report by The Rocky Mountain Goat. Their dedication to the project and the community is evident in every aspect of the park, from its meticulous design to its commitment to local collaboration.

As more pubs explore the potential of opening campgrounds or RV parks, this trend could be more than just a passing phase. It may represent a broader shift in the hospitality industry, where businesses are continuously evolving to meet changing consumer demands and preferences.

In a delightful turn of events, the campground situated on the edge of the scenic town of McBride, opened its doors to its inaugural guests last week. While the park is still putting the finishing touches on some of its amenities, the enthusiasm is palpable. A road construction crew working nearby became the park’s first guests, marking the beginning of what promises to be an exciting venture.

The RV Park boasts 24 full hook-up sites, each equipped with essential facilities such as water, electrical connections, and sewage systems. Of these, 20 are pull-through sites, while the remaining four are back-in spots, offering options for various RV sizes and preferences. This attention to detail underscores the park’s commitment to providing a top-notch experience for its guests.

Adjacent to the RV Park stands the Gigglin’ Grizzly Pub, a beloved local establishment. While the two share the property and name, they operate as distinct entities, each offering unique experiences. Strategically located, the park provides a luminous and welcoming first impression for visitors approaching from the west side of town, enhancing McBride’s charm.

A commendable aspect of this venture is the Fry’s commitment to the local community. Throughout the development phase, they collaborated extensively with local contractors and sourced supplies from within the community. This not only boosted the local economy but also fostered a sense of communal pride and ownership.

As the park gears up for its first full season, there’s a buzz of activity. Chris Fry is hands-on, making adjustments and ensuring the grounds are in pristine condition. While there are plans for additional amenities like picnic tables and further landscaping, these might be projects for the future. The park’s operational months are still flexible, with Chris anticipating activity until October, but this could change based on demand and feedback.
