Another year means another season to explore and experience more adventures in the great outdoors.
For Canadian campers and outdoor enthusiasts, January is the perfect time to book outdoor getaways. According to a release, many BC Parks’ will open their reservations on January 3, 2023, with the opportunity for campers to book a site four months prior to their desired arrival date.
George Heyman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy said that the current visitor engagement reveals that the majority of campers prefer a four-month rolling window.
Heyman vowed to continuously listen to public feedback to improve people’s park experiences and to make BC’s beautiful parks and backcountry areas accessible.
Campgrounds to be added to the new reservation service for the 2023 season includes Gwillim Lake Park near Chetwynd, Yahk Park near the Kingsgate border crossing, and Allison Lake Park near Princeton.
Meanwhile, reservations for Bowron Lake Canoe Circuit in Bowron Lake Provincial Park will open for the 2023 season at 7 a.m. on December 1, 2022.
Kelly Greene, Parliamentary Secretary for Environment, said that authorities would continue to expand opportunities for camping and improve accessibility so more people can experience the natural treasures of our beautiful province.
In a Modern Campground story last month, BC Parks reported the record-breaking numbers of reservations made for campsites, day-use passes, backcountry permits, cabins, and picnic shelters in the 2022 camping season.
The release emphasized that over 317,000 reservations were made on the new and improved BC Parks reservation system for the 2022 season—an increase of 26.5% since 2019.
BC Parks investment of CA$21.5 million for the addition of new campsites, trails, and upgrading facilities will pave the way for more accessible outdoor recreation in the province.
Since 2017, more than 1,700 campsites have been added to provincial parks and recreation sites in high-demand areas. Of those sites, 500 are in the Lower Mainland parks, including Cultus Lake, Golden Ears, Chilliwack Lake, Stawamus Chief, and Garibaldi.
