ACRD Deliberates Hollies Golf Course Reintroduction of RV Campground

Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District (ACRD) in British Columbia is currently deliberating on a proposal that could enable the reintroduction of an RV campground at Hollies Golf Course, according to an Alberni Valley News

“The applicants have since re-worked their plans. Staff recommends that the board consider issuing the new temporary use permit, recognizing the need for additional campground capacity within the region,” Alex Dyer, planning manager, said in the report.

In 2017, Heather Powell, the owner of Hollies Golf Course, was granted a three-year temporary use permit (TUP) allowing the operation of a campground with up to 22 sites.

However, this permit expired, and the site at one point expanded to accommodate 30 RV campsites, surpassing the authorized limit. Consequently, by June 2022, the establishment was mandated to remove all RVs from its premises.

The ACRD board proceeded to vote in favor of considering the TUP application. The next steps involve notifying nearby residents and property owners and soliciting public feedback on the proposal.

On March 13, the ACRD’s board convened to evaluate the issuance of a new TUP for Hollies Golf Course. This permit would authorize the golf course to host up to 35 RV campsites for three years, catering to both long-term and seasonal visitors.

The proposed TUP encompasses several stipulations aimed at ensuring the orderly management of the campground. A CA$10,000 security deposit is also required from the property owner, serving as a guarantee for compliance with the TUP’s terms.

Dyer emphasized the significance of the security deposit as a mechanism to enforce adherence to the permit conditions, noting that this approach could be applied to other temporary use permits within the district.

Concerns were raised by Director Debbie Haggard regarding the proposed increase in the number of campsites from 22 to 35.

British Columbia features the serene joy of front-country camping, backcountry hikes, mountain bike trails, and boating on crystal-clear waters.
