Anne Kang Appointed as B.C.’s New Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport

British Columbia Premier David Eby has appointed Anne Kang as the province’s new minister of tourism, arts, culture and sport, part of a broader cabinet reshuffle aimed at addressing economic growth and community needs.

Kang, who has represented Burnaby Centre since 2017, brings previous cabinet experience in advanced education, municipal affairs, and citizen services.

The announcement was made as part of a series of strategic changes to the provincial cabinet, with Eby emphasizing a renewed focus on the economy, essential services, and investment opportunities.

“We need to be responsive to the changing needs of our province by growing our economy, seizing new opportunities, and making our essential services more resilient,” he said in a press release.

Kang takes over the tourism portfolio from outgoing Minister Spencer Chandra-Herbert, who has been appointed as minister of indigenous relations and reconciliation.

The cabinet realignment also introduced several new ministers, including Ravi Kahlon as minister of jobs and economic growth, Nina Krieger as minister of public safety and solicitor general, and Jessie Sunner as minister of post-secondary education and future Skills. Each was chosen to align specific skills and experience with pressing provincial priorities.

The revised cabinet also includes Christine Boyle as minister of housing and municipal affairs, Diana Gibson as minister of citizens’ services, and Rick Glumac as minister of state for AI and new technologies.

Premier Eby thanked outgoing ministers Garry Begg and George Chow for their contributions, noting that both would continue serving in new roles within the government. “I know they will bring the same enthusiasm to their new roles,” Eby said.

The government has stated that the restructured cabinet is designed to address B.C.’s biggest challenges, including strengthening public services and building a resilient, diversified economy less reliant on the United States.

With 19 women now holding cabinet positions, the majority-female leadership reflects the province’s diversity and values.
