Parks Canada has reiterated its seasonal restrictions on tents, tent trailers, and soft-sided camping equipment at Lake Louise Campground in Alberta.
This is an annual measure aimed at protecting visitors and wildlife amid heightened bear activity.
According to an article published by Airdrie on March 31, a Parks Canada official confirmed that the campground is divided into two sections: a soft-sided/tent area and a hard-sided/trailer section.
The soft-sided area, located near the Bow River, operates from May to September and is enclosed by an electric fence to reduce the risk of bear encounters.
The hard-sided section operates year-round and does not have an electric fence. Only hard-sided camping units are permitted in this area between March 28 and December 15.
However, from December to March, tents and soft-sided units are temporarily allowed due to lower visitation and reduced bear activity.
Despite the restrictions, Parks Canada officials clarified that “tents are always welcome in Lake Louise,” emphasizing that specific sections of the campground accommodate tents depending on the season.
The agency also underscored the importance of “keeping wildlife wild,” reminding visitors that safety is a shared responsibility.
Violators of the restrictions may face fines of up to CA$25,000 under the Canada National Parks Act.
The hard-sided campground, located near the Bow River and Canadian Pacific rail line, accommodates trailers and RVs up to 15 meters (50 feet) with access to 15-30-50 amp service.
The soft-sided section also offers unserviced campsites for tents, tent trailers, and soft-sided units up to 7 meters (24 feet) and is enclosed by an electric fence for wildlife protection.
