The third annual “Sparkle in the Park” at the Cold Lake M.D. Campground concluded its weeklong run, drawing significant community participation and support for local causes. The event, organized by the charity Hearts for Healthcare, featured festive light displays created by local businesses and community organizations.
Held from December 1 to December 7, the event aimed to spread holiday cheer, support mental health initiatives, and collect food donations for the Cold Lake Food Bank.
Ashley Brown, marketing coordinator at Hearts for Healthcare, described the event’s purpose as fostering community spirit during the holiday season while addressing local needs.
“We love when people donate because it helps lots of different things,” Brown told Lakeland Today, emphasizing that the event is also a way to bring the community together.
Donations collected during the event will benefit Hearts for Healthcare’s mental health projects, and non-perishable food items will support the Cold Lake Food Bank.
“[Last year was] the biggest donation for Cold Lake Food Bank that they saw all year,” Brown added. Participation this year was higher than ever, with 75 display stalls compared to 10 in the event’s inaugural year.
The Municipal District of Bonnyville provided power for the displays, while Imperial Oil contributed handcrafted wooden ornaments for the first 100 vehicles each night. More than 75 volunteers contributed their time to ensure the event’s success.
A walk-through preview kicked off the event on December 1, featuring activities such as a bonfire, visits with Santa, and s’mores.
For safety reasons, the rest of the week operated as a drive-through experience, allowing visitors to enjoy the displays from the comfort of their vehicles.
The proceeds from this year’s event will support mental health initiatives identified by Hearts for Healthcare’s partners. Brown noted that past contributions funded waiting room chairs, underscoring the importance of even small improvements for those seeking mental health services.
Organizers expressed gratitude for the community’s enthusiasm and support, which continue to make “Sparkle in the Park” a cherished tradition in Cold Lake.
