Nehalem Bay State Park will reopen select day-use areas on May 23 while its campground remains closed through at least the end of June due to ongoing construction, according to the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.
The day-use areas set to reopen include the boat ramp, the south day-use parking area, the airport, and the multi-use path located east of the park’s main entrance road.
The main entrance from Garey Street will also reopen at the same time to provide access to these areas.
“We’re excited to welcome visitors back to the park, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as we work to improve the park experience,” Park Manager Ben Cox said, sa reported by Cannon Beach Gazette.
The campground and the Horizon Street entrance will remain closed to the public as construction continues on campground upgrades.
The campground is expected to reopen as early as July 1, depending on the progress of the construction.
Campground reservations are expected to become available in the coming weeks for dates beginning in July. Park officials encourage visitors to check the Nehalem Bay State Park webpage for the latest updates.
Construction at the park includes upgrades to water and electrical lines throughout the camp loops and the addition of a new restroom and shower building.
The new facility is designed to accommodate increased visitation and will include accessible features such as an adult changing table.
Additional improvements include the installation of accessible restrooms and campsites at the horse camp, along with hose bibs for horse camp sites.
Renovations are also underway to create more accessible paths and campsites within the main campground.
Crews are repaving the main entrance road and implementing traffic calming features along the stretch from the Garey Street entrance to the airport intersection.
A new day-use fee station will be installed near the airport intersection to streamline access and improve traffic flow.
