As Bryce Canyon National Park (Utah) kicks off its centennial year, the park staff is working to reopen seasonal facilities, extend operation hours, and introduce new services and events for visitors.
With a plethora of attractions and programs planned for the year, the park aims to provide an unparalleled experience for park visitors.
Despite snow covering the park, preparations are in full swing for the busy season ahead.
One of the key services resuming is the Bryce Canyon Shuttle, which aims to alleviate parking congestion at popular overlooks and trailheads.
The free shuttle service will be available to all visitors from April 7 until October 22, with daily services starting at 8:00 a.m.
Campers can look forward to reservation-based, first-come, first-served camping options at the North and Sunset Campground.
Loop A of North Campground will remain open all winter for first-come, first-served camping and will transition to reservation-based camping from May 19 to October 7.
Meanwhile, Sunset Campground will offer first-come, first-served camping from April 15 to October 31. The Sunset Campground Group Site remains on reservation and will be available from May 20 to October 15.
In a nod to the park’s rich history, the historic service station, built in 1947 by Union Pacific’s Utah Parks Company, will reopen its doors on May 1. This time, however, it will cater to the modern traveler by offering e-bike and bicycle rentals.
The adjacent Shared-Use Path provides an enticing 18-mile cycling opportunity between Inspiration Point and Red Canyon.
Additional facilities reopening include the Lodge at Bryce Canyon and Sunrise Point General Store on April 1.
The historic Lodge Dining Room will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, while the Valhalla Pizzeria is slated to reopen in May.
For adventurous visitors, Canyon Trail Rides will offer horse and mule rides starting April 1, weather and trail conditions permitting.
Bryce Canyon National Park’s centennial year is packed with special events, including Utah Prairie Dog Day on May 11, a historic photo exhibit from April to November, and a centennial ceremony featuring a free public concert by The Piano Guys on June 8.
The Visitor Center and Bookstore will extend their hours to 6 p.m. starting March 26 and further to 8 p.m. on May 7.
Visitors planning a spring break trip should be prepared for possible ice and snow on park roads and trails.
