The National Park Service (NPS) will reopen more than 30 campsites in Loop A of Julian Price Campground on August 15. The campground is located at milepost 297 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina.

Campsites will be available exclusively by reservation through the end of October, with reservations opening at 9 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday, August 11, via recreation.gov. First-come, first-served sites will not be offered this season.

According to a press release, maintenance and recovery efforts at the campground have been carried out by arborist crews from Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Blue Ridge Parkway staff, and volunteers.

Their work during the spring and summer included clearing debris and removing hazardous trees, enabling this partial reopening.

Other campground loops will remain closed through 2025 to allow for continued repairs, including water system work and further debris removal.

The comfort station in Loop A will be operational this season. However, the campground shower building will remain closed.

The announcement urged visitors to respect closures in other sections of Julian Price Campground and throughout the park, citing ongoing safety risks. “Multiple seen and unseen hazards exist in closed areas, and crews and heavy equipment at work make areas unsafe,” the press release indicates.

The Price Lake Trail is open, but visitors are advised to exercise caution.

The partial reopening of Julian Price Campground comes after extensive cleanup efforts following damage caused by Hurricane Helene earlier this year. The storm caused damage along the parkway, prompting closures and repairs.

“Visitors should plan carefully for any trip along the Parkway and consult the park’s website for a wide variety of planning tools. The park’s website provides extensive information, including current road status, multiple regional maps, and other helpful information,” the press release states.

The approach to reopening Julian Price Campground underscores the importance of maintaining a safe environment for visitors. By taking a proactive approach to maintenance, repairs and announcements, campground operators and RV park owners can minimize risks posed by storm damage and natural hazards. This careful, phased reopening also allows necessary work to continue while providing access to campers.
