Beverley Holidays has introduced what is being described as the UK’s first entirely solar-powered caravan, positioning itself as an early adopter of sustainable tourism practices in the outdoor hospitality sector.
The new accommodation, known as the Signature Eco Solar, is the result of a collaboration between Beverley Holidays, Victory Leisure Homes, and Rix Electrical Services.
Located in the English Riviera UNESCO Global Geopark in South Devon, the solar-powered unit is now available for booking at the family-run holiday park in Paignton.
According to Nicola Furneaux, director of Beverley Holidays, the initiative reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to environmental responsibility.
“This initiative is a reflection of our family’s values and our commitment to keeping Paignton clean and green,” Furneaux said in a report by TravelMole.
The Signature Eco Solar is powered by a 10-panel, 4kW solar energy system, paired with a 5.2kW Sunsynk battery for energy storage.
An integrated energy management system is designed to prioritize energy usage efficiently and reduce grid dependency by up to 80 percent.
Additional features include advanced insulation, double glazing, energy-efficient appliances, and a Sunamp heat cell that can provide hot water for up to ten days with minimal energy consumption.
Designed to appeal to a broad range of travelers—including families, couples, and solo visitors—the caravan blends renewable energy solutions with modern comforts.
The project has garnered support from the English Riviera BID Company, an organization that promotes sustainable tourism in the area.
Visitors staying at Beverley Holidays are within reach of several local eco-conscious attractions, including the South West Coast Path, Paignton Zoo, and the Berry Head Nature Reserve.
For industry professionals, this development serves as an example of how caravan parks and glamping operators can integrate renewable energy systems into their offerings.
With rising consumer interest in sustainable travel, investments in solar technologies may offer long-term savings while supporting environmental goals.
The English Riviera continues to be a notable destination for holidaymakers, featuring a robust mix of accommodations such as lodges, chalets, modern caravans, and touring pitches.
Beverley Holidays’ solar-powered unit marks a potential shift in how energy efficiency is being prioritized within this competitive segment of the UK’s tourism economy.
