As per a report, last winter, the Victorian (Australia) government announced it was looking into transforming hundreds of riverfront sites across the state into new campgrounds.
The time has finally come, as the government unveiled 13 new and 28 upgraded campgrounds across some of Victoria’s most picturesque regions.
New sites include Flat Spur Campground at Mt Buller, Stockman’s Campground located in the Big River State forest, and Thomson Bridge Campground in Gippsland.
Great Otway National Park also has three new campsites, and there are seven new hike-in campgrounds along the Grampians Peaks Trail.
Campgrounds devastated or destroyed by bushfires or storms, including in Wombat State Forest, near Corryong, and along the Werribee River, have been restored and reopened.
This project is part of a AU$105.6 million investment to bring more Victorians outdoors by the Andrews Labor government.
Along with campsite development, the funding is also being spent on improving the state’s walking trails and visitor facilities.
