Victoria Completes Hiking Trail and Campground Upgrades in Hepburn and Talbotville

Hiking trails and campgrounds from the Alpine region to Central Victoria, Australia have received significant upgrades through a $1.4 million investment by the Allan Labor Government, aimed at enhancing visitor experiences and showcasing the best of Victoria’s outdoors.

According to a press release, Minister for the Environment Steve Dimopoulos announced the completion of walking trail improvements in Hepburn Regional Park and a campground upgrade in the Alpine National Park

In Central Victoria, the Argyle Spring Walk in Hepburn Regional Park has been resurfaced and enhanced with replanting, weed control, interpretive signage, sculptures by Dja Dja Wurrung artists, and seating at pause points designed for reflection on the park’s natural and cultural heritage. Other tracks in the park have also been upgraded.

In the Alpine National Park at Talbotville Camping Area, visitors can now enjoy new facilities including a toilet, fire pits, and picnic tables, providing an improved base for exploring the surrounding high country.

Minor upgrades are also planned in the coming months at Eaglevale and Horseyard Flat campgrounds.

“These projects help more people more easily explore Victoria’s outdoors, giving people the opportunity to see the very best Victoria’s Great Outdoors has to offer,” said Minister Dimopoulos.

“These are some of the many Victoria’s Great Outdoors funded projects being delivered and planned for future to improve camping areas, tracks and trails in parks around the state,” Dimopoulos added.

“By ensuring people can enjoy parks in regional Victoria, we support nature and our regional economies at the same time,” said Member for Macedon Mary-Anne Thomas.

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh added, “The new upgrades to the Talbotville camping grounds will allow more visitors to come and enjoy a weekend away in the beautiful high country.”

Interim Chief Executive Officer of the Dja Dja Wurrung Group Cassandra Lewis said, “We invite people to connect with Country and Culture through our art and signage project Nyerna Djayi Wurreka, which means ‘listening to Country speak’ in Dja Dja Wurrung language.”

Part of the $106.6 million Victoria’s Great Outdoors program, these improvements support better campgrounds, walking trails, 4WD tracks, and visitor facilities across the state, reinforcing Victoria’s position as a premier outdoor recreation destination and strengthening regional tourism economies.
