The Torquay Foreshore Caravan Park is set to undergo changes with the planned addition of five new cabins and an accessible boardwalk.
Industry professionals, particularly those operating caravan parks and outdoor accommodations, may find value in observing how these upgrades aim to balance inclusivity with environmental and community considerations.
The project, which is currently open for public feedback, includes three cabins designed for families and larger groups, along with two all-abilities cabins intended to improve access to the coast for individuals with mobility challenges or disabilities and their support networks.
According to a news release, the new cabins will be situated near the existing glamping pods and dunes area.
According to Director of Community, Corporate Affairs, and Visitor Economy Andy Mathers, the initiative aligns with broader efforts to create inclusive and accessible tourism experiences.
“We’ve developed a Landscape Plan for the new cabin precinct along the southern edge of the caravan park and we’re keen to hear feedback from both park guests and the local community,” Mathers said.
The project reflects an industry-wide movement toward accessibility-focused developments.
By incorporating all-abilities accommodations, the caravan park not only expands its potential customer base but also aligns with growing consumer expectations for inclusive travel.
For outdoor hospitality operators, this initiative serves as a case study in leveraging accessibility improvements to enhance guest experience and long-term financial sustainability.
The initiative also underscores a reinvestment strategy where revenue generated from accommodations is funneled back into maintaining and enhancing regional parks and coastal areas.
“All revenue raised on the land we manage is reinvested back into the Great Ocean Road coast and parks, to ensure the special part of the state can be enjoyed now and for generations to come,” Mathers added.
Construction is expected to begin later this year, with the new cabins available for bookings ahead of summer.
Business owners and industry stakeholders can monitor this development as an example of how infrastructure upgrades, accessibility enhancements, and sustainable tourism practices can intersect to benefit both visitors and the broader community.
