South West WA Campsites Streamline Reservation Process with Expanded Online Booking

Several campsites in the South West of Western Australia have transitioned to an online booking system, enabling campers to secure reservations up to six months in advance. This update, launched by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) this month, expands the online platform with nine additional campsites. The change is designed to offer greater flexibility to those planning their camping trips in the region.

The newly added campsites are available for booking starting December 3 and include locations such as Big Brook Arboretum in Big Brook State Forest, Black Point (Seal Cove and Humpback Hollow) in D’Entrecasteaux National Park, and Lake Jasper, also in D’Entrecasteaux National Park.

Other additions include Leaning Marri, Grasstree Hollow, Snottygobble Loop, Greens Island, Draftys, and Warren.

The new system allows campers to reserve sites up to 180 days in advance, helping to manage demand at popular destinations, particularly during peak seasons such as marron season.

According to DBCA’s Rod Annear, the system ensures that campers can secure accommodations before arriving. “With camping continuing to increase in popularity, online bookings for campgrounds in popular parts of the State give holiday-makers the security of knowing they have accommodation confirmed before they arrive at their destination,” Annear said, as reported by South Western Times on November 27.

Annear added that the system also offers greater flexibility. “It also allows flexibility to change or cancel bookings up to one day before arrival if plans change, freeing up the campsite to be booked by others making more spontaneous plans,” Annear explained.

The move is expected to address ongoing demand for reservations, with increasing numbers of people opting for camping experiences in Western Australia. With the addition of more campsites to the booking platform, the DBCA aims to offer both residents and tourists a more streamlined way to plan their outdoor vacations.

According to its website, Western Australia’s parks offer a wide range of activities for all levels of adventure, from leisurely hikes and flat-water kayaking to challenging rock climbs and advanced mountain biking trails.
