The Caravan Parks Association of Queensland (CPAQ) said the state garnered almost AU$2 billion in visitor spending from travelers on caravan and camping trips.
The state also received 2.9 million overnight caravan and camping trips and generated 12.1 million visitor nights at year-end June 2022, despite the challenges it experienced this year and the pressures in the cost of living.
The data is an increase of 4% in trips and 11% in nights compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the Visitor Economy Report released by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia.
These visitors spent $1.8 billion while traveling, supporting local economies, job creation, and regional communities.
“As we have mentioned before, the Caravan Park Industry is a vital source of economic activity, jobs, and prosperity for regional Australia, providing more holiday nights than any other commercial accommodation type,” said the CPAQ in a LinkedIn post.
The 30-54 age group continues to be Queensland’s primary market, reaching a record 1.37 million overnight trips, which is 5% more than the previous year, and just under 5 million nights, which is 13% higher than before.
Impressively, data from April to June quarter shows 843,000 overnight caravan and camping trips and 3 million visitor nights across the state. It is an increase of 8% in trips and 5% in nights and represents the largest June quarter of trips and nights in Queensland on record.
