Queensland Caravan Manufacturer Zone RV to Operate in a ‘Substantially Reduced Capacity’

Queensland’s high-end off-road caravan manufacturer Zone RV has gone into administration, leaving staff and customers uncertain just weeks before Christmas.

According to an article by ABC News, the Coolum-based company, known for its luxury vans, informed employees on Monday morning that they would be sent home, with reports suggesting about 250 staff members are owed entitlements, including holiday pay.

Administrators from Cor Cordis said they had been appointed to preserve value and explore options for the company.

“Their primary objective is to preserve value for all stakeholders, including approximately 250 employees [plus] customers and suppliers, and to determine the strategic options available for the business moving forward,” a spokesperson said.

Administrator Rahul Goyal added, “Our immediate priority is to assess all viable options that maximise outcomes for all stakeholders while exploring avenues for a sustainable future for the brand.” Zone RV will continue operating in a “substantially reduced capacity,” the spokesperson noted.

Many customers were left frustrated and angry. Ray and Barb Davidson, who travelled from Warragul to collect their caravan, said they were told to pay the remaining $40,000 balance on Monday morning.

After completing the payment at their bank, they returned to the site only to find the gates locked. “[I’m feeling] angry and let down … it’s very disheartening,” Davidson said.

“It seems dishonest, but I don’t know whether the staff here knew what was going on. I’m very disappointed. I’ve just travelled 2,000 kilometres to get this. I have to converse with the administrator, I suppose, to see what’s happening. As far as I’m concerned, I own that caravan. I bought it. It’s registered in my name, I believe.” Davidson added.

Other customers who had paid large sums, including a Sydney couple who invested $270,000, were similarly affected.

Zone RV had previously received a $1.16 million Queensland government grant in 2023 for the country’s largest 3D printer.

Calls and emails to the company went unanswered, and its social media accounts are inactive.

The first creditors’ meeting is scheduled for December 10.

This situation underscores the vulnerability of customers and the importance of stability in the RV manufacturing sector, highlighting the impact such collapses can have on the broader outdoor recreation industry.
