Point Nepean Campground Expansion Offers Enhanced Camping, Tourism Opportunities

The expansion of Point Nepean National Park’s coastal campground is now complete, providing more opportunities for visitors to enjoy overnight stays in one of Victoria’s outdoor locations.

Located in Bunurong Country, the low-impact campground initially opened last year with the aim of offering an accessible and environmentally sensitive camping experience. The new additions showcase a ‘Woodland’ area with 13 additional campsites nestled among the park’s renowned Moonah trees.

Point Nepean National Park‘s master plan to improve access to the park while preserving its ecosystems. In an article published by The National Tribune, pre-pitched tents on raised platforms have been installed in the new area to minimize the environmental impact while making camping accessible to all people.

Some of the newly added tents are designed to be accessible with assistance and are located near essential amenities, including a camp kitchen, barbecues, and shower facilities. This design caters to visitors with diverse needs, ensuring that the campground is an inclusive space for everyone.

According to its website, the pre-pitched Discovery Tents at Point Nepean National Park are available for camping from September to April each year. These standing-height tents are fixed on timber platforms and come equipped with basic camp furniture.

The campground offers both two-person and four-person sites, along with key amenities such as hot showers, toilets, and a fully equipped camp kitchen. The kitchen features an outdoor dining area and barbecues, though personal gas barbecues are permitted only in designated areas for safety reasons.

Inside the tents, guests will find stretcher beds, mattresses, and some storage for personal belongings. However, visitors must bring their own essentials, including pillows, bedding or sleeping bags, chairs, torches, and toiletries.

The campground’s shared kitchen includes a stove, fridge, toaster, kettle, microwave, pots, pans, and cooking utensils, making meal preparation easy and convenient. With limited refrigerator space during peak times, guests are encouraged to bring their ice chest or esky to store food and drinks.

Campervans, caravans, camper trailers, and vehicle rooftop tents are not allowed in the national park while camping at Point Nepean. However, there are various nearby foreshore reserves and towns that offer alternative camping or accommodation options.

Point Nepean also hosts various events during the warmer months, ranging from community fundraisers to weddings and craft markets.
