Ocean Grove’s Collendina Caravan Park (Australia) changed ownership after the forty-year tenure of long-time family owners Bill and Joan Steains. They sold the property to Hampshire Property Group from New South Wales for an undisclosed amount.
The popular 30-hectare, 328-site camping property attracted unprecedented interest in recent weeks due to its location and facilities, according to a report.
The Hampshire Group has an extensive portfolio of properties across Australia, including retirement homes and holiday parks. Its CEO, Frank Sharkey, said the Ocean Grove site would remain a tourism destination after their takeover.
“We are very pleased to be able to acquire this exceptional holiday park. We look forward to building on the magnificent work of the Steains family, continuing to serve existing annual holidaymakers, and introducing more Victorians to this wonderful holiday location,” he said.
Bill and Joan said they worked hard over the past 37 years to turn Collendina into the “wonderful” family park it is today. They feel confident that the park will keep growing from “strength to strength” under the new ownership.
“While it will be hard for us to say goodbye to the lovely families in our park, we feel comforted knowing that Hampshire is the perfect fit and is keen to continue our legacy,” the couple said.
The selling agents for the park, JLL Hotels and Hospitality Group, reported they got over 300 inquiries and 12 formal offers in a “highly competitive” process since putting the property on the market earlier this year.
“We have never experienced the level of inquiry as we did in this sale campaign,” JLL vice-president Nick MacFie said.
“The demand for caravan parks within Victoria is at an all-time high with us now having a number of disappointed under bidders who are seeking similar opportunities.”
