Valley Views Glamping, a small, family-run retreat in Kurow, New Zealand, has been recognized in TripAdvisor’s 2025 Travelers’ Choice Awards as one of the top 10 “One-of-a-Kind Hotels” globally.
Ranked number eight in the newly introduced subcategory, the glamping destination is situated on a working beef cattle farm and features six geodesic dome tents with expansive views of the Waitaki Valley.
The property also includes an off-grid eco-lodge equipped with communal amenities such as a full kitchen, large dining spaces, a fire pit, and full bathroom facilities.
The announcement was made as part of TripAdvisor’s annual Travelers’ Choice Awards, released in early 2025, according to a report by Stuff.
These awards are based on the quality and volume of traveler reviews and ratings submitted to the platform between January 1 and December 31, 2024.
The recognition places Valley Views Glamping among the top 1% of 1.6 million listed hotels worldwide, according to Tripadvisor.
TripAdvisor described the location, situated northwest of Oamaru, as a standout example of New Zealand’s striking natural beauty, stating:
“There’s no denying New Zealand’s landscape is breathtaking. The best ways to take it all in? An off-grid, geodesic dome with uninterrupted views from your bed. Or, say, an outdoor heated bathtub in the forest.”
Amber Tyrell, owner of Valley Views Glamping, expressed appreciation for the recognition, telling Stuff Travel that they were “absolutely thrilled and deeply honoured” by the inclusion.
“As a small, family-run glamping retreat in the Waitaki Valley, being recognised on a global stage like this is incredibly meaningful,” Tyrell said.
“Our mission has always been to offer a truly unique and unforgettable experience—combining luxury, sustainability, and spectacular views—with heartfelt Kiwi hospitality.
This recognition is a testament not only to the amazing feedback and support from our guests…and to the dedication and passion of our incredible team,” she added.
The listing not only highlights the growing appeal of glamping in global tourism but also offers insight into consumer preferences. TripAdvisor President Kristen Dalton noted that this year’s award winners demonstrate a demand for “comprehensive amenities, elegance, and attention to detail.”
For business owners in the outdoor hospitality industry, this recognition underscores the increasing viability of eco-conscious, experience-driven accommodations.
Properties that blend sustainability with comfort—and actively encourage authentic guest engagement—are gaining traction in the competitive global market.
The success of Valley Views Glamping illustrates how smaller, independently run sites can achieve international acclaim through consistent service, strategic online presence, and positive guest experiences.
