The Rangitata Campground (New Zealand) has closed during winter, but it will reopen on August 1, in time for visitors and anglers to enjoy the warmer weather.

According to the Ashburton District Council, the campground has been operating all year round over the past few years, but due to the retirement of the campground caretakers, it reverted to a nine-month operation.
The site is operated by Ashburton District Council and has 24 powered sites and 31 non-powered sites, kitchen and laundry facilities, and an ablution block.

Chief Executive Hamish Riach said that freedom campers could use the campground, however, there was no access to the campground’s kitchen, laundry, and ablution facilities.
“There is also no electricity available for campers, but there are public toilets at the river mouth that Council maintains, and they are able to be used by anyone.”
Council is looking at how it will run the campground in the near future, and a report is expected to go before Councillors later this year.
