The campgrounds in the Fraser Block at Lake Eildon on Taungurung Country are set for significant upgrades to ensure visitors can continue camping in the National Park for many years to come.
According to a press release, Parks Victoria has appointed construction company Naturform to lead the improvements to toilet facilities across the area.
With nearly 40 years of experience delivering landscape construction projects, Naturform will oversee works designed to modernize the campgrounds and improve the visitor experience.
Candlebark, Lakeside, and Devil Cove Campgrounds will temporarily close from 7 January 2026 to allow contractors access to the sites.
Construction is scheduled to finish by early April, with all three campgrounds reopening in time for the busy Easter holiday period.
New accessible toilet blocks will be built at Lakeside, Candlebark, and Devil Cove Campgrounds, making it easier for more Victorians — including those with mobility challenges — to enjoy camping in the great outdoors.
In addition, a new toilet block will be constructed next to the main boat ramp, with work beginning in December.
The existing facility at Herb Fitzroy Day Visitor Area will remain open until the new one is completed.
The upgrades are part of a $4.6 million investment from the Victorian Government’s Victoria’s Great Outdoors program.
The funding will also address long-standing water supply issues caused by ageing infrastructure.
Much of the water system in the Fraser Block was built in the 1960s and has deteriorated beyond repair.
Upgrading the park’s water and wastewater systems will ensure they meet modern environmental standards and can accommodate more campers safely.
Surrounded by the Victorian Alps, Lake Eildon is a hub for outdoor adventure, offering swimming, canoeing, waterskiing, sailing, fishing, bushwalking, and cycling. These upgrades are crucial to sustaining Victoria’s outdoor recreation and tourism industry.
