Kiama Council Makes Changes Due to Overflowing 2023 Summer Camping

As the summer of 2023 approaches, the Kiama council has announced a significant change in its camping policy. For the first time, there will be no overflow camping sites at the Kiama Showground and Chapman Oval in Australia.

This decision has been made due to ongoing issues with the condition of the turfed areas, the likelihood of additional damage, and increased sporting and other events using the grounds.

The Kiama council, through its Kiama Coast Holiday Parks, has traditionally allowed holidaymakers with campervans, caravans, and tents to set up at these locations to meet the heavy demand of the Christmas and New Year period. However, this will not be possible in the 2023-24 summer season.

Despite this change, campers can still enjoy the beauty and attractions of Kiama. The town is known for its stunning natural beauty, including the Kiama Blowhole, a natural rock formation that spouts seawater 20 meters into the air. The area also offers beautiful beaches, charming cafes, and a vibrant arts scene.

For those who prefer a more structured camping experience, there are several other camping and caravan parks in and around Kiama. These parks offer a variety of amenities, including powered and unpowered sites, cabins, and facilities such as kitchens, laundries, and playgrounds.

While the decision to close the overflow camping sites may be disappointing for some, it is important to remember that it has been made in the best interests of preserving the grounds for future use.

As reported by the Illawarra Mercury, the council is committed to maintaining the quality and condition of its facilities, and this includes protecting the turfed areas from potential damage.

From a business perspective, this decision could have several implications for RV companies. While it may initially seem like a negative development, it could also create opportunities for businesses to innovate and adapt.

For example, RV companies could explore partnerships with other camping grounds or offer alternative solutions for customers, such as smaller, more compact RVs that are easier to accommodate in crowded areas.

Furthermore, this situation highlights the importance of sustainable tourism practices. As the popularity of camping and RV travel continues to grow, it is crucial for businesses, councils, and travelers alike to consider the impact of their activities on the environment and local communities.

This includes respecting local regulations, minimizing waste, and avoiding damage to natural and man-made environments.

While the Kiama council’s decision to clamp down on overflow camping for the 2023 summer may change the camping landscape in the area, it does not mean the end of camping in Kiama.

There are still plenty of opportunities for campers to enjoy the area, and for RV companies to thrive. As always, the key to success lies in adaptability, innovation, and a commitment to sustainable practices.
