Kennett River Caravan Park Set for Upgrades Under New Master Plan

Kennett River’s proposed infrastructure upgrades could have major implications for local tourism operators and campground managers, with the release of draft plans for both the Kennett River precinct and the caravan park master plan.

The proposals focus on traffic management, sustainability, and improving public amenities, all of which could impact how businesses in the outdoor hospitality sector operate in the area.

The precinct plan aims to enhance accessibility and safety by implementing traffic-calming measures and designated parking areas while reducing overall parking capacity.

Long vehicles, including caravans and motorhomes, will be directed to a dedicated parking area and roundabout, separate from general visitor traffic.

“These initiatives aim to create a safer and more pedestrian-friendly precinct through reducing congestion and improving traffic flows,” according to the draft plan.

According to a report by Travel Weekly, local tour operators may need to adjust their logistics, as large tour coaches will not be permitted to enter or stop within the precinct.

For caravan park owners and operators, the proposed master plan outlines several site improvements designed to optimize functionality and environmental sustainability.

Upgraded wastewater treatment systems, expanded shower and bathroom facilities, and an improved mix of accommodation options are among the changes planned. Native landscaping and nature-based play areas are also part of the proposal, reinforcing a focus on sustainable tourism and biodiversity.

Business owners in the outdoor hospitality sector may find opportunities in these changes, particularly in adapting services to align with the area’s evolving infrastructure.

While the restriction on large tour coaches may impact certain tourism businesses, the overall emphasis on improved amenities and environmental stewardship could enhance the region’s appeal to eco-conscious travelers.

“The draft plan balances complex environmental, social, cultural, and economic factors to deliver sustainable infrastructure improvements that enhance Kennett River’s unique character,” the proposal states.

As discussions continue, tourism operators and park managers will need to assess how these changes align with their business models and long-term visitor expectations.

The finalization of these plans will likely shape the future of outdoor hospitality in Kennett River, influencing both operational strategies and guest experiences.
