Island Park Caravan Park Transitions to New Management by CMCA

The Island Park Caravan Park in Casterton is now under new management following a two-year agreement between the Glenelg Shire Council and the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia (CMCA).

Despite the management shift, operations at the 27-site facility are expected to remain consistent.

Under the agreement, the CMCA will manage bookings, marketing, and daily operations at the park, while also providing an on-site caretaker. The CMCA operates 14 parks across Australia, but this is the organization’s first venture into Victoria.

“We are excited to be able to support Glenelg Shire Council through the management of the caravan park. Our members have been calling out for many years to have a presence in Victoria, and we are hoping that this first step leads to more in the state,” CMCA Chief Executive Richard Barwick told the SE Voice.

The club’s approach includes utilizing volunteer members as park custodians, who assist with bookings, enforce park rules, coordinate maintenance, and share local tourism information with guests.

This model aims to enhance visitor experiences while fostering community engagement.

Glenelg Shire Mayor Karen Stephens expressed optimism about the partnership, highlighting the potential for increased tourism in the area.

“Council is delighted with this agreement which will offer untapped tourism opportunities for Casterton and the wider region as a whole,” she said.

Mayor Stephens also noted that the CMCA’s large membership base of over 60,000 individuals provides significant promotional advantages for the township and the surrounding region.

The mayor emphasized that the day-to-day experience at the park would remain unchanged, ensuring continuity for visitors. She added, “Previous efforts to find a local operator had been unsuccessful; however, with CMCA on board, it is a win for all.”

The CMCA officially assumed management in December. Visitors can make bookings on-site, through the CMCA website or app, or by contacting the organization directly.
