Eurobodalla Shire Council in Australia has officially approved a new set-pricing scheme for access to campsites at the Moruya Showground, locking in the cost of camping for visitors to the small coastal town.
According to a news article by About Regional, earlier this year, councillors supported a plan to establish a primitive camping ground at the showground, designed for self-contained caravans and motorhomes.
The sites will be spread across two designated areas, offering powered sites, water, toilets, and a dump point.
Under the adopted fee schedule, campers will pay at least $30 per night, depending on their group size.
A “Standard” booking for two adults will remain at $30 per night, while a “Family” booking — defined as two adults and up to three children under 16 — will cost $35. Each additional person, regardless of age, will be charged $5 per night.
Council documents note, “Fees and the facilities provided are comparable with other showground campgrounds across the state and therefore considered appropriate.”
The pricing decision was deferred earlier in the year after Councillor Sharon Winslade called for more time to “tidy up” suggested changes.
Cr Amber Schultz had also raised concerns about the definition of a family rate, prompting clarification in the final version.
At the recent meeting, councillors confirmed that a maximum of 12 guests per campsite will be permitted. The sites are intended for short-term stays and not for long-term or homelessness use.
Camping operations will include an on-site caretaker, with bookings handled either through a central office or an online system.
Camping will also be paused during major events like the annual show and rodeo.
Eurobodalla Council estimates the new camping facilities will generate around $90,000 in annual revenue, with funds reinvested into maintaining and improving the showground.
This development is significant for RV travelers and outdoor enthusiasts, expanding camping options along the NSW South Coast.
