Empowering Leadership: Highlighting Women’s Impact in the Australian Caravan Industry

As reported by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia (CIAA), these women are setting new benchmarks in leadership and innovation.

Kate Meldrum, chief people & capability officer at Tourism Holdings Limited (thl), exemplifies this transformation. Her journey in the caravan industry began with a tertiary qualification in the ‘hospo’ sector from the UK and a move to New Zealand. 

Meldrum’s role evolved from promoting self-drive destinations in New Zealand and Australia to a leadership position where she now influences significant business decisions.

Louise Bayliss, managing director at Setec BMPRO, brings a passion for growing Australian business to the caravan industry. Her focus on innovations in power and battery management systems for caravans is enhancing travel experiences. 

Bayliss’s work in developing advanced monitoring and control systems optimizes energy usage, making caravan travel more efficient and enjoyable.

Anne Campbell, a compliance engineer at the CIAA, entered the industry almost by accident. Her background in the automotive industry and a passion for caravanning and camping led her to this role. 

Campbell emphasizes the importance of embracing new technologies in recreational vehicles, highlighting the potential for innovation in vehicle design and supporting infrastructure.

With over 27 years in the industry, she has witnessed the creation of cherished family memories and emphasizes the role of caravan parks in sustainable tourism. Nikki Milne, CEO at Tasman Holiday Parks, connects people with amazing locations and experiences. Her background in senior living and land lease communities has given her a unique perspective on the caravan industry. Milne is focused on anticipating customer needs and investing in the quality of holiday parks, underpinning the sector’s success.

Margaret Shannon, founder of Charashke and a former Future Leader Award winner, leverages her hotel operations experience in the caravan industry.
