Eco Suites Australia Proposes Luxury Glamping Domes at Yarramundi Reach

Eco Suites Australia has submitted a proposal to establish a small-scale glamping operation at Yarramundi Reach, near Lake Burley Griffin, targeting high-end tourism markets.

The company has lodged a Works Approval application with the National Capital Authority for three six-metre-wide geodesic glass domes designed to accommodate six guests per night. Consultation on the application is open until 21 November.

The domes would feature a five-star hotel-style interior, including a king-size bed, ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower, reverse-cycle air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and a retractable roof for stargazing.

The structures, measuring 30 square metres each, would be placed on timber decks and powered primarily by a solar array and battery system, with a backup generator.

Water and waste management would be handled via a 10,000-litre potable water tank and 380-litre waste storage tank per dome, with hot water provided by a 160-litre heat pump system.

Eco Suites Australia, whose sole director is Justin Daniel Henry, stated that the proposal aims to offer “immersive, nature-based luxury tourism experiences at iconic locations in Australia and New Zealand.”

According to an article by Region, the company added that the project would incorporate Indigenous cultural experiences in partnership with the Ngunnawal people.

The company has indicated that if the initial phase is successful, it plans to expand to six domes, projecting up to 8,100 visitors and $4.4 million in visitor spending in the ACT over five years.

The site was selected for its relative seclusion and minimal light pollution, and Eco Suites Australia states no established trees will need to be removed, though up to 20 plants or saplings per dome may be transplanted or cleared.

New native trees would be planted in consultation with the National Capital Authority to offset vegetation removal.

Security and guest services would include 24-hour concierge service, CCTV monitoring, private security patrols, and a small on-site car park with access from Lady Denman Drive via an automated gate.

Construction is expected to take 16 weeks, followed by an eight-week fit-out and testing phase, with the company aiming for a launch in the first half of 2026.

Eco Suites Australia anticipates minimal impact on the community, noting that public amenities such as cycle paths and toilets would remain accessible, and shoreline access would not be restricted.

For outdoor hospitality professionals, the proposal highlights key operational considerations for small-scale luxury glamping, including off-grid energy solutions, sustainable water and waste systems, security infrastructure, and integration with local cultural partnerships. It may also indicate potential market demand for high-end, low-impact eco-tourism experiences near urban areas.
