Eco-Safari Tents Bring New Glamping Experience to Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve

A new glamping experience has opened along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road (Australia), as the Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve welcomes visitors to its newly completed eco-safari tents.

The project, backed by the Allan Labor Government, introduces 20 eco-safari tents designed to enhance the visitor experience through sustainable and comfortable accommodation in a natural riverside setting near the beach.

According to an article published by The Australia Today on October 6, Minister for Environment Steve Dimopoulos said the Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve “has always been a favourite for campers, but these new Eco-Safari Tents bring a whole new level of comfort and style to the experience.”

The new glamping facilities mark a significant step in diversifying the region’s tourism offerings, giving travelers an option that blends traditional camping with modern convenience.

Each tent has been designed to provide a close-to-nature stay while maintaining comfort and accessibility.

Nestled at the northern end of the reserve, the eco-safari tents feature a range of layouts, including private ensuite tents and DDA-compliant accessible options with bathrooms designed to meet disability standards.

All units offer scenic views overlooking the Barham River.

Member for Western Victoria Gayle Tierney said the addition of the tents represents a valuable boost to local tourism and the regional economy.

“This is a great new addition to camping options along the Great Ocean Road, and will bring in new visitors that will help boost the local economy,” Tierney said.

The Eco-Safari Tents are part of a broader AU$5.15 million investment in accommodation upgrades at the reserve. The project includes improvements such as road realignment, enhanced site access, upgraded amenities, and re-grassed green spaces to better serve campers and glampers alike.

Beyond the new glamping tents, the reserve continues to offer a variety of camping options, including bookable tent sites and powered caravan sites. According to its website, Apollo Bay Recreation Reserve continues to attract visitors with its well-equipped facilities and prime location along the Great Ocean Road.

The park provides a relaxed stay for families, pet owners, and travelers, with dog-friendly sites available year-round.

Guests can enjoy the convenience of walking directly into Apollo Bay to explore local shops and attractions, while on-site amenities include coin-operated laundry facilities, amenity blocks, and free BBQs for outdoor dining.

The park also features access to a tennis court and oval, opportunities to fish right within the reserve, and ample space for boats and trailers.
