Darwin Residents to Weigh in on Proposed Bundilla Beach RV Park Trial

Darwin residents are invited to share their thoughts on a proposed trial for a recreational vehicle (RV) park at Bundilla Beach in Fannie Bay, Australia.

According to a report by the Inside Local Government, if supported, the trial could bring a new dimension to local tourism during the peak visitor season in 2023, accommodating approximately 20 RVs at the beachfront location.

City of Darwin Council Lord Mayor Kon Vatskalis emphasized that the trial is part of the Council’s efforts to stimulate the local economy, promote tourism growth, and establish Darwin as an appealing tourist destination.

“We want to see increased tourist numbers in Darwin because we know that tourist spending benefits various sectors of the local economy, including retail, hospitality, arts, tours, and transport,” Vatskalis said.

With accommodation in Darwin consistently in high demand and options booking out for 2023, the proposed RV park trial could provide an alternative for visitors. If the community supports the trial, the Council will launch an expression of interest process to find a qualified operator to manage the park, potentially creating new jobs and supporting local businesses.

The proposed trial site is on Council-owned land currently used as a car park. The location was chosen after evaluating areas close to essential services and amenities. This initiative aligns with the Council’s strategic direction for “A smart and prosperous city.”

RV travel has become increasingly popular in recent years, and the trial could offer a welcome boost to Darwin’s outdoor economy. Campers and RVers seeking to explore the area’s natural beauty could be drawn to the proposed park, benefiting the local community.

The Council encourages community members to learn more about the proposed trial and share their opinions through a survey available at engage.darwin.nt.gov.au. The deadline to complete the survey is 3 pm on Friday, May 12, 2023.

As the future of Bundilla Beach hangs in the balance, the input of Darwin’s residents will play a crucial role in shaping the city’s tourism landscape. The proposed RV park trial presents an opportunity to expand outdoor recreation options for both locals and visitors while supporting the growth of the local economy.
