Caravan Industry National Conference 2023: A Record-Breaking Success

The 2023 Caravan Industry National Conference concluded with a record-breaking attendance of over 1000 delegates. The event showcased enthusiasm, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the future of the caravan industry. 

The conference began successfully on Wednesday with the K-mac Powerheads and Thetford Golf Day, followed by Augusta Golf Carts claiming first place, according to a news release by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia (CIAA).

The Future Leaders Summit highlighted the wealth of talent within the industry, while the inaugural EV & Future Fuels Summit emphasized innovation and sustainability. 

Many conference attendees were excited to see the latest caravan design trends, including lightweight materials for improved fuel efficiency, convertible living spaces for increased functionality, and environmentally-friendly features like solar panels and energy-efficient appliances.

The plenary program commenced with a stirring Welcome to Country from Uncle Luther and a moving address from Chairman Grant Wilckens. MC Kimberley Busteed, known for her features in Channel 7 travel shows, steered the conference with ease. Opening keynote speaker Michael McQueen set the tone for engaging and enlightening discussions.

Throughout the conference, technology’s significant role in the caravan industry’s evolution was evident. Innovations such as virtual reality for immersive caravan tours and digital marketing strategies to reach new audiences were embraced by the industry to stay competitive and provide an enhanced customer experience.

The trade expo showcased fresh and modern booths, attracting delegates eager to explore the latest trends and technologies. The increasing focus on sustainability within the caravan industry was apparent, with manufacturers prioritizing eco-friendly practices and caravan parks incorporating green initiatives.

Thursday’s events began with a unique goat yoga session and a comprehensive overview of the market at the Research Breakfast. Plenary sessions featuring industry professionals and experts, such as principal sponsor Dometic Outdoor, provided valuable insights into global trends, storytelling, 3D printing, leadership, and customer service.

The IVECO poolside Casual Dinner offered great food, wine, and conversation, followed by live music from Aussie rock star Shannon Noll, courtesy of VAN JAM – CTIAQ’s new caravan show combining music festival elements with traditional caravan show components.

On Friday, Brian Parker, Chief Economist of Australian Retirement Trust, guided attendees through the current economic landscape and future projections. The closing plenary session featured intriguing perspectives on the industry’s future from Craig Kirby of RVIA, Jason Plant of CTIAQ, and the Future Leaders panel.

The afternoon concluded with a relaxed barbecue on the lawn, live music by Reigan Derry, sponsored by Modnpods, and a fireworks display as a prelude to the Gala Dinner. The Gala Dinner celebrated prestigious industry award winners, with Alison Huth receiving the Eric Hayman OAM Award.
