The Office of the Governor of Muscat has announced plans to develop what will be Oman’s largest fully serviced camping and glamping site at Hawiyat Najm Park, also known as Bimmah Sinkhole, located in Quriyat.
The initiative, led by Muscat Municipality, marks a major tourism infrastructure project in the region aimed at promoting domestic travel and outdoor recreation.
Covering an area of 500,000 square meters, the Hawiyat Najm Development Project will introduce an integrated glamping hub designed to combine leisure, relaxation, and nature-based tourism.
The site’s design emphasizes Oman’s natural landscapes and aims to provide modern facilities that appeal to both local and international visitors.
According to the announcement, the tender for the project has been awarded and will include a mix of features such as landscaped green areas, outdoor activity zones, walking and cycling paths, and public facilities.
The development will feature a designated area for glamping units and caravans, accommodating up to 144 visitors per day.
According to Muscat Daily, plans also include a family park, children’s playgrounds, and a range of outdoor recreational opportunities to enhance the visitor experience.
The project’s infrastructure will integrate sustainability measures, including water recycling and desalination systems, as well as a waste recycling facility.
Smart information signs will provide educational insights into the site’s geological and cultural heritage, while an exhibition hall will showcase locally made products to support small businesses and artisans.
Earlier this year, Muscat Municipality launched a competition inviting creative individuals to design a visual identity for Hawiyat Najm Park. The winning entry, which will become the park’s official logo and branding, will receive a prize of 500 Omani rials.
For outdoor hospitality operators, the project illustrates how governments in emerging tourism destinations are investing in infrastructure to support eco-friendly and experience-based travel.
As Oman works to diversify its economy through tourism, developments like Hawiyat Najm Park may create new business opportunities for glamping suppliers, caravan service providers, and outdoor recreation operators seeking to enter or expand within the Middle Eastern market.
