Ritz-Carlton to Launch First Safari Camp in Kenya’s Masai Mara This August

The Ritz-Carlton is preparing to debut its first luxury safari camp in Kenya’s Masai Mara National Reserve, with reservations now open for stays beginning August 15, 2025.

The new offering, named The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp, marks the global hotel brand’s expansion into the African wilderness market and signals an increasing interest among luxury hospitality operators in experiential accommodations tied to wildlife and local culture.

Located on the banks of the Sand River, close to the Kenya-Tanzania border, the camp is positioned to give guests prime viewing access to the Great Migration, a seasonal movement of millions of wildebeest and zebra that occurs between July and October.

Outside of this migration window, the reserve remains a year-round destination for wildlife observation, including the Big Five and hundreds of bird species.

“At The Ritz-Carlton, we believe in the power of travel to transform—not just the places we visit, but also those who journey there,” said Helen Leighton, Vice President, Luxury Brands, EMEA.

“The Masai Mara is one of the most spectacular destinations in the world and we look forward to introducing The Ritz-Carlton’s first safari experience and signature hospitality to this extraordinary setting.”

According to Hospibuz, the safari camp will feature 20 tented suites designed to integrate with the natural environment. These accommodations will include indoor-outdoor bathing spaces, private plunge pools, and expansive decks.

A Presidential Suite with four bedrooms will offer additional space for families or private groups. All guests will have a dedicated ‘Encholiek’—a personalized butler service using a Maasai term meaning “one who walks with you.”

Sustainability initiatives are central to the camp’s operations. Energy will be generated by solar power, rainwater will be harvested for use, and waste will be reduced through targeted practices.

Locally sourced materials and furnishings support regional artisans and emphasize a commitment to community engagement.

In addition to wildlife excursions, the property will offer a variety of cultural and wellness experiences.

Guests can engage with the local Maasai community through guided village visits and in-camp activities such as storytelling, traditional dance, and culinary demonstrations.

Signature experiences include ‘The Call of Dusk,’ where guests gather to hear stories around a fire, and guided photography sessions using Canon equipment.

Dining will highlight regional flavors with flexible options ranging from sky deck stargazing meals to private bush breakfasts. A boma, or traditional gathering space, will serve Maasai-style meals accompanied by cultural narratives.

The safari camp is accessible by air from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the nearby Serena Airstrip, followed by a short transfer. A five-hour road journey from Nairobi is also available.

For outdoor hospitality professionals, the launch underscores a growing trend of luxury brands incorporating glamping models that emphasize both sustainability and cultural authenticity.

Operators in the space may find lessons in how The Ritz-Carlton is leveraging local partnerships, renewable energy, and immersive experiences to align with evolving traveler expectations.

The high nightly rate—starting at $3,500 per person, all-inclusive—indicates continued market demand for premium wilderness accommodations with tailored service.

Reservations are currently open for August 2025 stays.
