Tanzanian eco-lodge operator Laba Laba has expanded its portfolio with the opening of Laba Grumeti Art Lodge, a 12-room tented property located in the Grumeti Game Reserve within the Serengeti ecosystem.
The lodge officially opened last month, introducing a blend of contemporary African art, sustainability, and outdoor hospitality design.
The property features 11 double tents and one family tent situated on a hilltop overlooking the reserve. Facilities include a spa, an infinity pool, and a restaurant that sources primarily organic ingredients.
Each structure was designed to balance guest comfort with environmental stewardship, aligning with broader trends toward sustainable luxury in Africa’s glamping and eco-tourism markets.
Laba Grumeti Art Lodge was initially inspired by the work of South African sculptor Zizipho Poswa, whose influence can be seen throughout the site.
The property showcases 46 custom-made art pieces created by 10 African artists, integrating contemporary African design into the guest experience.
This emphasis on cultural authenticity and creative expression reflects a growing movement among luxury outdoor accommodations to incorporate regional art and identity into their offerings.
According to a report by the Daily Southern & East African Tourism Update, the lodge is powered entirely by solar and battery systems, part of Laba Laba’s ongoing commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint.
Game drives are conducted in refurbished vintage safari vehicles that operate on diesel, ethanol, and electric fuel, underscoring efforts to balance guest experience with reduced emissions. Walking safaris and experiences centered on the Great Migration are also available.
For operators and developers in the outdoor hospitality and glamping industries, Laba Laba’s approach illustrates how art, renewable energy, and sustainable materials can be combined to create a distinctive and low-impact guest experience.
The project also highlights the continued evolution of the luxury tented accommodation model, which has gained momentum globally as travelers seek immersive yet environmentally conscious stays.
