AfriCamps Launches Premium Tents to Meet Demand for Upmarket Travel

AfriCamps Boutique Glamping has introduced a new accommodation option with the launch of its Premium Tent, designed as the company’s most spacious and upmarket self-catering unit to date.

The first three tents opened on August 1 at AfriCamps Addo in the Eastern Cape, with another three scheduled to open at AfriCamps Klein Karoo in Oudtshoorn on October 31.

The Premium Tents feature a studio-style layout that includes a king-size bed, a fully equipped kitchen, and an en-suite bathroom with a walk-in rain shower.

Each tent also has a wood-burning indoor fireplace and outdoor amenities such as a private wood-fired hot tub, a built-in braai, a hammock, and a deck lounge area.

“The Premium Tent offers everything our guests already love about AfriCamps – just with more space, more comfort and more style,” AfriCamps Co-Founder Manou Bleumink told Daily Southern & East African Tourism Update

“This new design is our response to the growing demand for upmarket travel in South Africa.”

For business owners in the glamping and outdoor hospitality industries, AfriCamps’ new offering reflects a trend toward higher-end accommodation that caters to travelers seeking both comfort and outdoor experiences.

The introduction of larger and more premium units can increase revenue opportunities by attracting guests willing to pay for enhanced amenities, particularly in markets where traditional camping is being redefined by growing demand for glamping.

The staggered rollout of the Premium Tents across multiple sites also highlights a scalable approach to testing and expanding new product lines within the industry.

For operators, this may provide insights into balancing investment in upgraded infrastructure with consumer demand, while also positioning properties to remain competitive in a market where travelers are increasingly seeking elevated outdoor experiences.

With the launch at Addo already complete and Oudtshoorn set to follow in late October, AfriCamps’ expansion of its accommodation range is an example of how glamping operators are adapting to shifting traveler expectations in South Africa’s tourism sector.
