Point South/I-95 /Yemassee KOA Holiday has been named a 2026 Best of the LowCountry Gold winner in the RV Parks/Campgrounds category, marking its fifth consecutive year receiving recognition from the annual community awards program.
The achievement marks a return to the top position for the South Carolina campground, which previously earned Gold awards in 2022, 2023, and 2024, followed by a Bronze award in 2025.
The Best of the LowCountry program, presented by The Island Packet and The Beaufort Gazette, relies on community voting to evaluate businesses across the region.
In the 2025 voting cycle, more than 233,000 votes were cast across 198 categories featuring over 1,400 competitors.
The campground, located off Interstate 95 at Exit 33 and U.S. Route 17 in Yemassee, South Carolina, has been owned and operated by William Olendorf since 1983.
Positioned between Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah, Georgia, the property incorporates specialized amenities alongside traditional RV and camping sites, including the Swimming Mermaid Coffee House & Wine Bar, glamping accommodations, gardens, public art, and a restored Louisville & Nashville Railroad caboose.
“[We] have always looked beyond the campground industry for ideas about hospitality,” Olendorf said. “I’ve asked myself, ‘What do the five-star hotels do that makes a guest feel like they’re somewhere special?’ A campground is obviously a very different experience, but the fundamentals are the same: how you welcome people, the environment you create, the details you pay attention to and whether guests leave wanting to come back.”
The 2026 Gold recognition accompanies several other awards received by the franchise, including selection as a 2026 KOA Icon and a 12th consecutive Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Award.
The facility also secured two 2026 honors from LUXlife Magazine: Most Welcoming Holiday Park 2026 – South Carolina and Best Deluxe Cabin Rental Accommodation 2026 – South Carolina. The location previously earned KOA Franchisee of the Year in 2016 and LUXlife Campground of the Year 2021 – South Carolina.

The year-round facility operates under Kampgrounds of America (KOA), a network encompassing more than 500 franchised and company-owned locations.
