The Pennsylvania Campground Owners Association (PCOA) is encouraging campground owners and operators to participate in its September Compete for Kids Challenge, an initiative benefiting Care Camps and supporting camp experiences for children battling cancer and their families.
Through Care Camps, children with cancer can attend camp while continuing to receive the medical treatment they need, while their families can join them. The camp experience is provided at no cost to participating families, according to PCOA.
The challenge is intended to engage members of the campground community in fundraising for Care Camps throughout September. Contributions of any size can help support opportunities for children and families affected by childhood cancer.
The association highlighted the camp’s role in providing children with opportunities to make friends, try new activities, explore and spend time outside the hospital environment.
For families dealing with childhood cancer, the program provides an opportunity to spend time together away from the challenges associated with treatment. Parents can participate alongside their children and create family memories during their camp stays.
The September challenge is part of PCOA’s effort to mobilize campground owners and operators around the Care Camps cause. The association encouraged its members to sign up and participate during the month.
PCOA framed the effort as a community-wide competition designed to combine fundraising with campground participation, calling on members to contribute according to their individual ability.
“It doesn’t have to be a huge effort to make a huge difference. When all of us come together, small contributions become life-changing opportunities for kids and families. Let’s fill September with a little friendly competition, a whole lot of campground spirit, and an even bigger purpose,” the association states.
