A Mid Wales camping and glamping business has received national recognition at the Best of Welsh Food & Hospitality Awards 2026, being named Wales’ best camping business and runner-up in the glamping category.
Cambrian Mountains Glamping and Camping in Llanddewi Brefi received the awards during a ceremony in Swansea in 2026. The recognition comes after owners John and Menna Lewis-Griffiths invested more than £100,000 in developing the tourism business, which operates alongside their dairy farm.
The property currently includes eight serviced grass camping pitches, a recently built shower block, two self-contained glamping pods equipped with hot tubs, a holiday cottage with a hot tub, and 12 privately owned static caravans.
The site is positioned between the Cambrian Mountains and the Ceredigion coast and promotes its rural setting, dark skies for stargazing, and access to mountain trails. For operators in the outdoor hospitality sector, the business illustrates one approach to diversifying a rural property by combining traditional camping and caravan accommodation with higher-end glamping and self-catering options.
The Lewis-Griffiths family has been involved in tourism at the property for decades. John’s parents began diversifying the dairy farm into static caravan accommodation in 1965. John and Menna later expanded the offering, including a full renovation and modernization of the holiday cottage Felin Gogoyan in 2019.
The business said its investment has been accompanied by efforts to develop a broader visitor offering while maintaining its agricultural operation. Its mix of serviced pitches, glamping accommodations, a holiday cottage, and static caravans provides several accommodation types aimed at different visitor segments.
According to Cambrian News, Menna Lewis-Griffiths thanked those who nominated and voted for the business in the awards.
“It’s the first award we have won and it means so much that people voted for us and that we have been acknowledged for the work we have done here,” said Menna, who also thanked Dafydd Wyn Morgan, owner of Serydda, for his marketing support and encouragement.
The Best of Welsh Food & Hospitality Awards recognize businesses across Wales for their food, hospitality, customer service, and contribution to their communities. Cambrian Mountains Glamping and Camping’s recognition comes as rural tourism businesses continue to use accommodation diversification as a way to broaden revenue sources and make use of existing land and infrastructure.
For campground and glamping operators, the business also highlights the potential operational considerations of running multiple accommodation formats on one property. Serviced camping pitches require different infrastructure and guest services from self-contained pods or holiday cottages, while privately owned static caravans can represent a longer-term accommodation model with different management requirements.
The property is a member of Mid Wales Tourism, an independent organization representing more than 600 tourism and hospitality businesses across Powys, Ceredigion, and Meirionnydd. The organization provides a regional network for businesses operating across the tourism and hospitality sectors.
With its latest recognition at the 2026 awards, Cambrian Mountains Glamping and Camping joins other Welsh tourism businesses receiving industry attention while continuing to operate its accommodation business alongside agriculture.
