Buahan Named APOLA’s Asia Pacific Glamping Experience of the Month for August 2026

The Asia Pacific Outdoor Lodging Association (APOLA) has named Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape in Bali, as its Asia Pacific Glamping Experience of the Month for August 2026, recognizing the adults-only retreat for its nature-focused hospitality concept and sustainability initiatives.

Located in the highlands of Payangan, north of Ubud, the retreat is designed as an open-air property with accommodations that do not use traditional walls or doors, offering guests uninterrupted views of the surrounding rainforest and mountain landscape. Buahan is situated about 90 minutes by car from Ngurah Rai International Airport, making it accessible to both domestic and international travelers visiting Bali.

The recognition forms part of APOLA’s monthly program highlighting outdoor lodging destinations across the Asia-Pacific region. The initiative showcases properties that demonstrate distinctive approaches to glamping, outdoor hospitality, guest experiences, and environmental stewardship.

Buahan positions itself as a wellness-oriented destination where guests can participate in activities centered on nature, local culture, and personal wellbeing.

Experiences offered at the property include the Soul Freedom Journey, Jungle Cooking sessions at the Dukuh Asri Regenerative Centre, and Moon Meditation and Fire Ritual programs. These activities are designed to immerse visitors in Bali’s natural environment while introducing elements of local traditions.

Food and beverage offerings also reflect the property’s focus on regional culture. Guests can take part in the signature Timbungan lunch, which features slow-cooked fish, pork skewers, and crispy duck prepared using the traditional Balinese megibung communal dining style.

Sustainability is integrated into the property’s operations through its architectural design, regenerative farming practices, and conservation efforts. Buahan also works with local farmers and artisans to source products and support the surrounding community while helping preserve Balinese cultural traditions.

The resort offers the Banyan Tree Connections package throughout the year, combining accommodations with curated wellness experiences and dining options, according to TravelDailyMedia.

For campground, glamping, and outdoor hospitality operators, the recognition reflects several trends that continue to influence premium outdoor lodging. Wellness programming, authentic cultural experiences, locally sourced food, and partnerships with nearby communities have become increasingly important differentiators as travelers seek experiences that extend beyond accommodations alone.

Properties that integrate sustainability into both operations and guest programming may also strengthen their appeal to environmentally conscious visitors while creating opportunities to collaborate with local suppliers and producers.

The August 2026 recognition also highlights the growing diversity of the glamping sector across the Asia-Pacific region, where operators are expanding beyond traditional accommodations to incorporate experiential travel, wellness, and conservation into their business models.

As the outdoor hospitality industry continues to evolve, destination-based experiences and community engagement are becoming increasingly significant considerations for operators looking to attract higher-value guests and build long-term brand differentiation.
