A newly redeveloped Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp-Resort has opened in Williamsburg, Virginia, following Northgate Resorts’ acquisition and conversion of the former Williamsburg Campground into the family-focused camping destination.
According to a press release, Community leaders joined Yogi Bear, Cindy Bear and Boo Boo for a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 10 at the 80-acre resort, located at 4000 Newman Road.
Organized by the Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, the event marked the addition of the Williamsburg property to Virginia’s existing Jellystone Park locations in Chincoteague Island, Luray and Natural Bridge.
The redevelopment introduced new attractions and amenities designed for campers, RV travelers and glamping guests.
Families now have access to two pools, a splash pad, jumping pillows and laser tag, while the resort also features gem mining, basketball and gaga ball courts, playgrounds and nature trails.
A food truck is expected to be added, and golf cart rentals are available.
The property also expanded its accommodations and upgraded existing facilities. Guests can choose from a range of cabin options, from rustic cabins to glamping accommodations, while RV and tent sites have been updated.
In addition, a previously closed section of the campground has been renovated and reopened. Rustic cabins in the lower campground now include a mini refrigerator, microwave, ceiling fan and coffee maker.
The campground has also introduced a schedule of Yogi Bear-themed programming, including foam parties, dance parties with the franchise characters and seasonal events such as Santa’s Summer Vacation and Halloween Weekends.
“We are excited to celebrate the opening of Jellystone Park Williamsburg,” Greater Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce CEO Terry Banez said. “Jellystone Park’s commitment to providing an exceptional family- and pet-friendly experience makes it a fantastic addition to our community.”
According to General Manager Joe Sabold, guest response to the redevelopment has been positive.
“Families love the themed activities, which create even more opportunities to make memories that last a lifetime,” Sabold said. “We’re delighted to bring another family friendly destination to the Williamsburg area and to introduce more kids and parents to Jellystone Park.”
The Williamsburg resort is located near Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Busch Gardens and is within driving distance of Newport News, Norfolk and Richmond.
