RVTI Level 2 Certification Helps Technician Build Path Toward Mobile RV Repair Business

The RV Technical Institute’s (RVTI) Level 2 course helped RV technician trainee David Mounce gain advanced repair skills and a certification that allowed him to begin shadowing a certified mobile RV technician as he works toward launching his own mobile RV repair business.

Mounce completed RVTI’s Level 2 program, which focuses on troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing RV systems, including propane, electrical, water, appliances, body, generator and chassis components.

The program’s flexible format allowed him to continue training while managing personal responsibilities that could have delayed his career transition.

“What drew me to RVTI was the flexibility of being able to work through the program at my own pace,” Mounce said in a News and Insights report of RVIA on July 9. “At the time, I had a family member who was sick, which meant I couldn’t travel far from home. RVTI’s self-paced format meant I could fit my training around those responsibilities instead of having to choose between them.”

He said the structure of the program allowed him to continue pursuing a career change without having to postpone his training.

Mounce identified the course’s video content and hands-on labs as the most valuable parts of the training experience.

He said the combination of visual instruction and practical application helped him better understand RV systems and repair processes.

“The labs and video content were by far the most beneficial parts of the training for me,” Mounce said. “I’m a visual learner, so being able to actually watch a system being worked on — seeing the components, the tools, and the troubleshooting process in action — made everything click in a way that reading alone never could.”

He added that the hands-on labs helped reinforce the concepts covered in the videos by allowing him to apply the information directly.

“That combination of watching and doing was exactly how I needed to learn this material,” Mounce said.

After completing the Level 2 course, Mounce said earning his certification provided a credential that helped him begin gaining real-world experience.

He started shadowing a local certified mobile RV technician as part of his preparation to establish his own repair business.

“The timing couldn’t have worked out better,” Mounce said. “I earned my Level 2 certification, which gave me the credibility to go straight into shadowing a local certified mobile RV technician near me.”

He said the RVTI training provided both technical knowledge and a pathway toward mentorship and professional development.

“RVTI didn’t just teach me the technical skills — it gave me a credential that opened the door to the real-world mentorship I needed to move forward with confidence,” Mounce said.
