VCA Launches Consumer Blog Initiative, Flags Policy Changes Affecting Operators

The Virginia Campground Association (VCA) has introduced a new consumer-focused blog on its website aimed at increasing visibility for campgrounds across the state, while also highlighting legislative and regulatory developments that could impact outdoor hospitality operators.

The blog initiative is designed to attract potential campers by publishing content centered on seasonal camping, travel ideas, and experiences throughout Virginia.

VCA said the content will be repurposed into Facebook posts to expand reach and drive traffic back to individual campgrounds, positioning the platform as a marketing channel for its members.

The association is soliciting contributions from campground operators to support the effort. Suggested submissions include unique on-site experiences, themed events, nearby attractions, guest stories, and photos.

The initiative is intended to increase exposure for outdoor hospitality businesses by connecting consumer-facing content with campground listings. “The goal is simple: more visibility for outdoor hospitality businesses across the state,” the association states.

Separately, the association is monitoring legislative activity following the 2026 session, as Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger continues to sign bills addressing “affordability, workforce, and public safety.”

Among the measures enacted is a phased increase in the state’s minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2028.

Additional legislation focuses on public safety, including cyberstalking laws and support for law enforcement, along with policies tied to healthcare costs, housing, and workforce development.

Some legislative actions remain pending. The General Assembly is scheduled to reconvene later this spring to review amendments, vetoes, and budget considerations.

Broader policy areas, including labor and regulatory changes, are still under review or clarification.

VCA noted that changes related to wages, workforce requirements, and regulations are expected to directly affect campground operating costs and staffing.

In response to the evolving legal landscape, the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging & Travel Association will host a webinar on May 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The session will address employment law updates, including minimum wage changes, paid leave policies, Family and Medical Leave Act-related updates, restrictive covenants, hiring practices, and federal enforcement priorities.
