Lightship, a promising startup, revealed its all-electric L1 RV prototype at SXSW in Austin, targeting owners of electric SUVs and trucks seeking sustainable travel options. The innovative L1 earned Lightship a finalist position in the 2023 SXSW Innovation Awards design category.
The L1 travel trailer boasts ample storage space, a queen-sized bed, bathroom, living area, and a fully-equipped kitchen, complete with a dishwasher. Despite its impressive array of features, the L1 maintains a spacious and airy ambiance.
Co-founded by Ben Parker and Toby Kraus in 2021, Lightship first shared L1 renderings earlier this year. At SXSW, however, the company showcased the tangible prototype, featuring a battery pack, powertrain, heat pump, and functioning lights. Although Kraus noted that the L1’s fit and finish were not yet final, the prototype appeared nearly production-ready.
Lightship anticipates launching production in late 2024, with the base price of the RV ranging from $125,000 to $151,500, depending on the chosen variation. The company is currently accepting refundable $500 deposits to reserve a spot for the L1.
With the all-electric L1 RV, Lightship is set to revolutionize the travel trailer industry, offering eco-conscious adventurers a sustainable and luxurious option for road trips. Watch the video above to learn more.
