On the way to Castle Peak, I entered the Sawtooth National Forest and camped out and skied for a day. It was an easy hike, but my boots made it extremely painful. I camped near 4th of July Lake. I did manage to rest a night and then I found a nearby peak with about 4 inches of untouched powder on top of crust and an open face to ski down. Going fast enough I was able to feel as if I was skiing on nothing but powder. I have a lot to learn with ski packing, but I see it as the future of backcountry skiing for me.
