South, North Wood County Park Campgrounds to Close for the Season

In a press release, Wood County Parks and Forestry Department (Wisconsin) announced the closure of South Wood County and North Wood County Park campgrounds for the season on October 31.

According to Wood County Parks and Forestry Department’s website, Wood County provides guests with various outdoor recreation opportunities at its seven recreational parks, three rivers, many lakes, 38,000 acres of county forest land, and 18,500 acres of Wood County State Wildlife Area.

The release noted that the Dexter County Park campground will remain open until November 28. The second and third loops will remain open and available for camping by reservation.

While dump stations will still be accessible, all water-filling stations have been shut down for the season.

Meanwhile, the ATV Intensive Use Area and NEPCO Lake County Park shelter buildings will be available all year round.

South Wood County Park features 73 campsites, 54 of which are electrical. It also has two beach areas (White Sands, Red Sands), a boat ramp, a wheelchair-accessible area to fish, picnic areas, playgrounds, a 4.1-mile walk/bike trail, a nine-hole disc golf course, and shelter buildings.

North Wood County Park has 99 campsites located at North Park. It has shower facilities and a reservable group site area.

“We would like to thank everyone who came out and enjoyed camping and other various recreational activities in our parks this season, and we hope to see you again next year. As a reminder, camping and shelter reservations can be made one year in advance,” the release indicated.

The county also urged visitors to look out for notices regarding the opening of the multi-use groomed trails, snowmobile trails, and the Powers Bluff Winter Sports Recreation Area.

That’s astonishing! I just found out that the Dexter County Park campground will be staying operational until November 28. It’s the perfect chance for late-season camping in Wood County. With the second and third loops still available, there’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy the area’s stunning outdoor recreation options.
